ALTA ROOFING
Roof Repair & Leak Detection by Alta Roofing in Colorado Springs
Leaks · flashing · emergency tarping

Roof repair and leak detection, 24/7 across the Springs and Pueblo.

Water almost never gets in where the ceiling stain shows up. We start in the attic, trace the leak back to the real entry point, usually a cracked pipe boot or failed flashing, and fix that instead of the stain. Small repairs are often done on the first visit, and we answer 24/7 with emergency tarping when water's coming in.

The direct answer

Alta repairs roofs across Colorado Springs and Pueblo, whether or not we installed them. We diagnose from inside the attic as well as on the roof, trace the leak back to the real entry point, and fix it properly. We run 24/7 emergency response including tarping, so a storm that opens your roof at night gets covered the same night. Repairs carry our workmanship warranty, and we will tell you honestly when a repair is the wrong answer and a replacement is the right one.

The leak is rarely above the stain.

Water enters at a penetration, runs along the underside of the deck or down a rafter, and drops through the ceiling somewhere else entirely. We have traced leaks that showed in a bedroom to a cracked pipe boot fifteen feet away on the other side of a ridge.

So we do not start on the roof. We start in the attic with a light, looking for the stain trail, the daylight, the rusted nail shanks and the damp insulation, then go up top knowing roughly where to look. That is why our repairs hold and why the patch-the-ceiling-and-hope approach does not.

Going deeper: when a hail damaged roof can be repaired, and when it can't.

What's included

What do you actually get when we do this work?

  • Pipe boots and penetrations

The single most common leak we find on roofs in this region. The rubber collar on a plumbing vent cracks under high-altitude UV years before the shingles are worn out. We replace it with a new boot or a lead jack rather than smearing sealant over a split that will reopen.

  • Step and counter flashing

Where a roof meets a wall or a chimney. Reused, face-nailed or caulk-dependent flashing is a leak on a timer. We cut new counter flashing into the mortar joint and step-flash the course properly.

  • Valleys

Valleys carry the most water on the roof and they are where an under-prepped installation shows first. We open, inspect the membrane underneath and rebuild rather than shingling over the fault.

  • Wind-lifted and creased shingles

The west side of Colorado Springs takes strong downslope gusts off the Rampart Range. A shingle that has been lifted and laid back down looks fine from the drive and has a crease through the mat. We check the tabs, not just the gaps.

  • Ice dam damage at the eaves

Repeated melt-and-refreeze pushes water back up under the courses. We fix the symptom at the eave and then look at the actual cause, which is nearly always attic ventilation and insulation rather than the shingle.

  • Emergency tarping, 24/7

If your roof is open, call us. We get it covered and dry first, then deal with the permanent repair and the insurance question in daylight.

  • A straight repair-or-replace answer

If your roof has five years left, we will tell you to repair it. If it is at the end of its life and you are about to spend real money patching it, we will tell you that too, with the photos to back it up.

How the job runs

Start to finish, no surprises.

  1. Step 01

    Call or message

Tell us what you are seeing and roughly when it started. Emergencies get triaged immediately, day or night.

  2. Step 02

    Diagnose

Attic first, then the roof. We photograph the entry point and the damage path so you can see what we saw.

  3. Step 03

    Stabilise

If water is actively getting in, we tarp or dry-in the same visit before anything else happens.

  4. Step 04

    Repair

Flat-quoted after diagnosis, so you approve a number rather than an hourly rate that grows.

  5. Step 05

    Photo report

Before and after photos, what we found, what we did, and whether anything else on the roof is worth watching.

What actually leaks on a Colorado roof.

After enough repairs in El Paso and Pueblo counties, the list gets short and predictable. In rough order of how often we find it:

  • Most common

    Cracked pipe boots

High-altitude UV destroys the rubber collar on plumbing vents long before the shingles give up. A twenty-dollar part causes a four-figure ceiling repair.

  • Very common

    Failed sidewall and chimney flashing

Especially where a previous repair relied on sealant instead of correctly stepped and counter-flashed metal.

  • Common

    Wind-creased shingles

Downslope gusts lift tabs and break the seal strip. The shingle lies back down looking intact, with a crease through the mat that opens in the next storm.

  • Common

    Valley and transition failures

Where two planes meet and the water volume concentrates. Cut-up roofs on newer subdivisions have a lot of these.

  • Seasonal

    Ice dams at the eaves

A warm attic melts snow that refreezes at the cold overhang. The dam then holds water against the roof until it finds a way in.

  • Underrated

    Exposed fasteners and nail pops

Every exposed nail head is a future leak. On older roofs with face-nailed repairs there can be dozens.

Get it looked at before it gets worse.

Free, photo-documented and no obligation. We work Colorado Springs, Pueblo and the towns between them, and we run 24/7 emergency response including tarping if water is coming in right now.

Yes. We run 24/7 emergency response and tarping is part of it. Call the number on this page and tell the person who answers that water is coming in, and we will get it covered and dry, then deal with the permanent repair afterwards.

Yes, most of our repair work is on roofs somebody else put on. We will tell you what we find without making it a sales pitch for a replacement.

Sometimes. A leak caused by a sudden storm event is usually claimable. A leak caused by a worn-out roof, a failed old repair or long-term neglect generally is not, because policies exclude wear and tear. We will tell you which one you have before you call it in, because a denied claim can still sit on your loss history.

Not if it is done to the manufacturer's instructions with compatible materials, which is how we do it. What does put a warranty at risk is a sealant-and-hope repair, and attic ventilation that falls below the manufacturer's requirement.

Emergencies, same day or same night. Non-urgent repairs in Colorado Springs and Pueblo are usually within a few days, because our crews are in both counties every working day rather than driving in from another metro.

Sometimes, on a young roof with isolated hits. On an older roof the shingles around the damage are often too brittle to lift without cracking, and a matching colour may no longer be made. We test a tab before we promise a repair, and we will tell you if a spot repair would just move the problem 3 feet over.

We quote a flat price after the diagnosis rather than an hourly rate, so you approve a number before anything starts. Small repairs are often completed on the same visit.
