Roofing in Monument, Colorado.
Monument sits on the Palmer Divide at about 6,960 feet, roughly 900 feet above Colorado Springs. Snow load and ice dams matter as much as hail up here, so we build the roof with extended ice-and-water membrane at the eaves and balanced Lomanco ventilation that keeps the deck cold all winter.
Alta Roofing serves Monument, Palmer Lake, Woodmoor, Gleneagle and the wider Tri-Lakes area on the Palmer Divide. At around 6,960 feet this is a materially different roofing environment from the Springs: more snow, more thunderstorm activity, and ice damming as a genuine annual risk rather than an occasional one. We build the assembly for that, with extended ice-and-water coverage and ventilation that keeps the deck cold. Permits run through the Pikes Peak Regional Building Department.
The Palmer Divide makes its own weather.
The Palmer Divide is the ridge of high ground running east from the mountains across the county line north of Colorado Springs, and it lifts air over it. That lift is why the Tri-Lakes area reliably gets more snow than either metro area below it, and why afternoon thunderstorms fire along the Divide when the plains either side stay quiet.
So Monument roofs get the hail everybody else in the region gets, plus a snow load the Springs does not, plus a freeze-thaw cycle running at 6,960 feet. A roof assembly specified for a Powers-corridor subdivision is not the right assembly for a home in Woodmoor, and treating them the same is how ice dams become an annual event.

Ice dams, snow load and the wildland edge.
An ice dam forms when heat escaping into the attic melts snow on the upper roof, the meltwater runs down to the cold overhang and refreezes, and the resulting ridge of ice holds water against the roof until it finds a way under the courses. The fix is not more sealant, it is extended self-adhering membrane at the eaves and a properly balanced ventilation system that keeps the deck cold. The other Monument-specific factor is fire. Large parts of the Tri-Lakes area and neighbouring Black Forest sit in the wildland-urban interface, and Black Forest has the fire history to prove it. Class A fire-rated roof assemblies and ember-resistant vent selection are a real conversation here, not a formality.
Get my roof checkedLarger custom homes, steeper roofs, covenants
Custom homes on acreage, Woodmoor and Higby
Steeper pitches, multiple dormers, long valleys and large roof areas. Complex roofs with a lot of transitions, which means more flashing detail and more places for snow to collect and for ice to build.
Treed lots and the Black Forest edge
Heavy ponderosa and spruce cover means constant needle drop into valleys and gutters, which holds moisture against the roof. It also means wildfire exposure, which puts Class A assemblies and ember-resistant venting on the table.
HOA covenants in the planned communities
Several Tri-Lakes communities have approved colour and material palettes. Send us the covenant or the approval form with your enquiry and we will quote to it, and we will flag anything in the approved list that will not perform well at this elevation.
Your roof permit goes through the Pikes Peak Regional Building Department.
The Town of Monument and the Town of Palmer Lake both sit inside the Pikes Peak Regional Building Department's jurisdiction, along with unincorporated El Paso County. The one-square permit threshold applies here as it does in the Springs.

Monument roofing questions.
Almost always because heat is escaping into the attic and the roof deck is warm when it should be cold. Adding heat cable treats the symptom. The actual fix is air sealing, insulation and a balanced intake-and-exhaust ventilation system, plus extended self-adhering membrane at the eaves the next time the roof comes off.
It changes what matters. Ice-and-water membrane coverage at the eaves and in the valleys, proper drip edge, and a ventilation system that keeps the deck cold are all more important at 6,960 feet on the Palmer Divide than they are 900 feet lower in the Springs.
Yes. Most asphalt shingle systems achieve Class A as part of a rated assembly, and vent selection matters as much as the shingle where embers are the concern. Tell us your covenant or insurer requirement and we will spec to it.
No, it is normal in Woodmoor and the other planned communities. Send the approved palette or the ACC form with your enquiry and we will quote to it.
